Individual Residential Alternatives (IRAs) are houses located throughout the Western New York community and offer a variety of different living options.  Group-style IRAs have 24-hour on-site staff support.  Each resident has their own bedroom and shares community space.  Most of our homes are located within walking distance to public transportation, restaurants and recreational activities.  All of our houses have access to a site van and many are wheelchair accessible.  Apartment-style IRAs have two levels of on-site staff supervision.  Based on an assessment completed by our Placement Specialist, people are considered for a supported or supervised setting.  Some of our apartments are two bedroom, allowing residents the opportunity to have a  spare room to use however they choose.  Each resident has their own private kitchen, living room, bedroom and bath.  Most apartments are within walking distance to public transportation, restaurants and recreational activities.

We realize people can become homeless or need emergency shelter for a variety of reasons.  Our Emergency Shelter can provide temporary housing to individuals with developmental disabilities in need.  Each resident receives their own bedroom and shares community space.  The shelter is within walking distance to public transportation.  Our Emergency Shelter also provides Site Based Respite to people with developmental disabilities over the age of 18 years.  Respite services can be scheduled in advance and offers caregivers a much needed break.

Community Services also offers a Transitional Shelter to people with developmental disabilities who are homeless according to HUD standards.  The house offers both a group-style setting and two supervised apartments for people seeking more independence.  People can stay in this shelter for up to two years.

Our Safe House is the only shelter in New York State specifically designed for individuals with developmental disabilities who are victims of domestic violence, crimes and/or abuse.  Abuse comes in many forms, including neglect and theft of funds.  The Safe House provides confidential shelter to individuals with developmental disabilities and their dependent children.  A Family Violence Counselor is on staff to help families who have experienced domestic violence. We will actively assist a person staying at the Safe House as they transition into a safe and permanent home.

Community Services offers a variety of low-income Rental Apartments to individuals of any ability.  Amenities include a private bath, bedroom, kitchen and living room.  There are also on-site laundry facilities in some of the apartments.  All apartments are located on major bus routes, making travel easy.  Rent includes most utilities.  For more information, call Building and Property Management at 447-9999, ext. 110.
